UK event update

We are now over half way in our UK event season and we thought you’d like to know the latest from our recent events.  We still have Just Bike, Oxfam Trail Trekker Ireland and Maggies Night hike all up and coming so we can’t quite relax just yet.  We have jotted down some feedback from the two Barclays events in Manchester and London raising funds for UNICEF and the Capgemini Wild Challenge for the Prince’s Trust.

Comments From Just Walk 2009

We had such a fantastic time at the weekend on Just Walk here are just a few of the comments trickling in:

To date our walkers have raised £9868 so should get to the £10K mark which we are absolutely thrilled about. They all had a great day and some looked very happy by the photos, ending up in a most acceptable pub congratulating themselves on their efforts.  Caroline Brookes at TreeHouse charity

Every one of the Just Walk Team made me feel special all through the event – it was as though I was the only person that mattered to them.  Stevie Parker

2009 Just Walk a huge success | limited time only 10% off all registration fees

Saturday saw the third successful Just Walk  take place in the South Downs, West Sussex.  The one-day walking challenge saw over 700 people walking 10, 20, 40 or 60 kilometres fundraise for a charity of choice.

The event was opened by Olympic medal winner and keen athlete, Acer Nethercott.  Acer said, “Just Walk is a wonderful event. It’s fabulous to see so many people out in the open air, raising funds for their chosen charity. I hope to take part myself next year!”

Across the Divide began Just Walk as a result of continued requests from charities wanting to get involved in fundraising walks, but unable to invest time and money into their own events. To date, Just Walk has raised over £1 million for over 200 charities.

Gemma Phillips, UK Events Co-ordinator at Across the Divide says, “The event was a great success. It was our biggest year yet with a fantastic turn out on a beautiful day. The walk was tough in places but we had some very happy walkers crossing the finish line. Here’s to Just Walk 2010.”

The next Just Walk event will be taking place on 15 May 2010 and for a limited time only we are offering 10% off all registrations fees – so join us now.

Success at Hyde Park Triathlon

The 2009 Student Partnership Worldwid Hyde Park Triathlon took place this weekend (Sunday 26th). This exclusive and popular sprit triathlon, organised by us, was once again a great success with 227 competitors taking part in this sunny spring morning. Some were elite athletes; many were novices out for some healthy fundraising challenge in Britain’s greatest park. The race consists of a 400m swim in the Serpentine, 15km on the bike on South Carriage Drive and finally a 5km run through the leafy paths in the park.

The men’s winner was Tyler O’Callaghan in a time of 50:21:6. First woman was Louise Bartlett in 1:03:45:1. The fastest team was Team Jean in 55:20.8. Well done to all who took part.

This event is SPW’s main annual fundraiser and we look forward to seeing more people joining in next spring.

Namibia Ultra runners about to set off…..

It’s only a few days until our team of runners set off on the ultimate endurance test in the Namibian Desert. The Namibia 24-hour ultra marathon is a race over 126km in 24-hours, all contestants will be completely self reliant from the start to finish and will need to carry all their own food and equipment on their backs. For 2009 we have a Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton and a team from Men’s Fitness magazine joining us. The Namibia 24 hour Ultra Marathon is rapidly becoming known as the ultimate endurance test for distance runners. Our route will take you into the northern Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world and the largest and most remote National Park in Africa. If the landscape does not help to keep mind and soul occupied, the ostrich and springbuck you will pass along the way should bring your thoughts into focus.
