Sarah Outen – makes it with a little help from EWM!! The first Britian to row in the India Ocean and the first female ever!

Sarah Outen in a breathtaking achievement and with a little help in terms of support and training from Expedition and Wilderness Medicine has successfully become the first Britian and the first woman ever to row across the Indian Ocean and the youngest woman to solo any ocean- massive congratulations to her from us

A very exciting, record-breaking, and ever so slightly crazy sort of challenge. It involved my little boat, the Indian Ocean and lots of chocolate. April Fools Day 2009 I set out from  Western Australia in a bid to become the first woman to row solo across  this ocean.  124 days later after 4,000 miles, having eaten all my chocolate, faced storms and mid-ocean capzies , I landed in Mauritius.  It was raw and elemental – just as adventure should be.

Find out more about Sarah’s epic row at http://www.sarahouten.co.uk  or donate online via JustGiving

This fantastic new race will be run in 24 hours across the vast, wild and remote area of the Grand Canyon North Rim, which remains untamed and isolated – an uplifted, forested plateau surrounded by desert..

The ultra marathon is 126km to be covered in 24 hours!  You will be self reliant – carrying your food, water and survival equipment.

Across the Divide statement on Swine Flu

Participant safety is paramount to Across the Divide and we are continuing to monitor the situation with regards to swine flu and its potential impact on our overseas events. At the time of writing the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is not advising against travel to any of the countries in which we operate however, should this advice change we will ensure that both charities and participants are kept informed, and will work with you to make suitable alternative arrangements. Please note that some airlines (most notably British Airways and Virgin Atlantic) will prevent passengers from boarding the plane if they are suspected of carrying the swine flu virus, and that medical screening facilities have been introduced at some international airports. Across the Divide strongly recommends that anyone suffering from flu-like symptoms prior to departure contacts the National Pandemic Flu Service (please refer to the website ) for advice.

Please refer to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for further information regarding swine flu overseas and do not hesitate to contact us on 01460 30456 should you have any further concerns.

Additional seats on our China Challenge in April 2010

Due to huge demand we have managed to secure some more seats on our Great Wall of China Challenge in April 2010.

Our China trek offers a truly unique experience. Not only is it a chance to visit one of the world’s most impressive historical sites but also, as a result of our local contacts, it offers a rare opportunity to trek and camp in a remote part of rural China and to experience local life in its most unspoilt state. In order to maximise the opportunities for interaction and learning about the local history and culture, a team of local translators support all our treks in China.  Join us now on this amazing charity challenge.
